Participation: This is probably the most important part of your class as it not only counts for 30% of your grade, but has a direct effect on all of your assessments. With regular participation you will speak, hear, write, and read better, therefore scoring better on assessments. In the past you earned participation “points”. This year, your participation grade will be more encompassing. You will not only be assessed on the amount of times you speak, but on listening skills, the quality and level of difficulty of your sentences and whether you challenge yourself in taking what you have learned and making a part of the class discussions.
Homework: Yes… you will have homework each night. Some will be written, assignments to be passed in for a grade, while others will be study assignments for a quiz or test. Graded homework assignments will count for 10% of your grade. Each student will be allowed to hand in one late homework assignment per quarter without penalty, but will receive a 0 fr each assignment that is late after that.
All homework assignments will be placed on www.homeworknow.com.
Tests and quizzes will make up the other 60% of your grade. Tests are worth 3 quiz grades. Quizzes can be re-taken if a student scores low. An average of the two quizzes will be taken, Tests can not be re-taken. Students have ONE WEEK to re-take quizzes from the date the quiz is handed back to the student.
Tests and quizzes will be assessing students’ writing, reading, speaking and listening skills.
Projects: We will do projects this year and they will be counted either as a quiz or test, depending on the size of the project.
